Wet-Seal Coffs Coast Bush Khanacross Series 2026 – Final Round

The “Zahli Bug” (Zahli Pell) on her way to 1st position in the Ladies division

The third and final round of the Bush Khanacross series for 2026, supported by the team at Wet-Seal Coffs Coast was completed last Sunday. The dry conditions with patchy rain fall preceding, and during the day, made for some challenging conditions with a forever changing surface.

A few competitors keep the recovery team busy whilst I suspect a few others were simply lucky, with more than one report of a car “making its own way” through the scrub next to the course!

The shared Mazda 3 of the Kennedy Family. Matt & daughter Isabella both went on to multiple class and division placings!

As always we had a heap of cheerful volunteers who offer their services, time, trucks, 4WD and winches to ensure the day ran smoothly and safely. Spotlight on Adz who braved the rain, dust and reasonably constant heavy lifting to get those who had lost their way back on the track and able to continue.

The lead changed constantly throughout the day as the front runners matched each others times and strove to go one better. Fame favours the bold however, when the going got slippery, occasionally punished them aswell!

There is always a few interesting battles going on between classes or rivals within the overall. Its rewarding to see the comaraderie which spawns from such healthy competition.

Thanks to everyone who assisted, competed, ate sausages, cooked BBQ’s, did paperwork, re-did paperwork, braved online entry systems, repaired the track, setup, packed up, offered advice, offered their time/money/support and anything else I may have missed!

This series will return next year with a revised layout and an additional round. A presentation for both series will be announced shortly.

In the meantime we have two rounds of the Steve Arthur Electrical Khanacross Series 2026 yet to run:

…bring out your best

Ahoy supporters and members.

We will be displaying some cars again and manning a stand at the Coffs City Rotary Motor Show coming up in October.

We need all types of cars to be represented, road cars, bangers, fully prepared competition cars. The idea is to show off the different levels and diversity of our club and motorsport. Please contact us if you are interested.

The club cars will be there, your entry will be paid and there will be someone looking after the stand all day. We are planning on some giveways and a competition too!

…its no mistake, round 3 is only weeks away

It seems only weeks ago (and it was) that Round 2 was underway! With a few date changes and postponements earlier in the year, the calendar has become a little squashed into the second half. But luckily, it looks like the fair weather is here to stay at least for the meantime.

So after some minor track grooming, wetting and rolling by the team we should have some great conditions again!

Hope to see you there, and as always let us know of any challenges so we may assist.

….Money (and time) well spent

Did you know that thanks to series sponsors:

We can re-invest profits from your entry fees into improving the facilities and venue conditions?

For example with help from Phil Robinson Earth Moving, the Piggott Family and Car Club Supporters, we recently repaired wear and tear from the previous round of the Wet-Seal Coffs Coast Bush Khanacross. We even managed to fill in a few low spots and reduce some of the more slick areas.

So I hope you can enjoy some of these improvements this coming Sunday.

All welcome, as always, let us know of any difficulties so we may be able to assist.

…New and improved Wet-Seal Coffs Coast Bush Khanacross for round 2

Thanks to our major sponsors Wet-Seal Coffs Coast. We also appreciate the assistance of Raleigh International Raceway and the Piggott Family. After the previous round, the team capitalised on ideal conditions, the availability of some machinery (and the generosity of supporters) to carry out some maintenance and make some course improvements. The surface now should be smoother, more consistent and generally flow a bit better.

The couple of hairpins have been opened up to make it easier for the larger and AWD cars to negotiate. We are also planning for the future with an additional loop being prepared and some changes to the course to keep it a challenge. Incidentally we will be completing the course in the opposite direction this round just to keep you on your toes.

I know it has been a sore point and continues to be a challenge, however I do implore you to complete whatever paperwork you can before the event to help maximise the drive time and number of runs. As always we can assist you with any issues you are facing and we can always complete or sort out any details missing at the event.

Hope to see you there.

…Finally some Motorsport worthy weather!

Last Sunday saw the running of Round 2 of the grass Coffs Coast Khanacross Series for 2026 thankfully supported by:

Its felt like a long time coming with delays due to the weather and other factors, but I think the final conditions were worth the wait.

There were plenty of new faces and with a small field, it was an excellent opportunity for newcomers to find their feet. Mind you, judging by the podium, I suspect for some, it wasn’t their first rodeo.

We always appreciate the regulars and despite being thrown some challenging courses, the times were close as the serious drivers fought it out for top honors. A few errors and penalties shuffled the top 5 positions throughout the day, eventually allowing new comer Logan Howell into 2nd Place being the highest placed competitor without penalties.

With a full ten rounds their were plenty of chances to excel (or through it away!) but despite some great driving by the competition, Harvey “Rocket Man” Nicholson had established such a substantial lead, that a rare mistake on his last run of the day wasn’t enough to knock him from 1st outright position.

If their was a fiercest but friendly rivalry award, it would have to go to Cassandra and Joshua Lole. Combatants on the field, heralding from rival teams but husband and wife at home, it could have been a story from Shakespeare. Josh may have ended up with the class win and a respectable 5th, however his wife easily defeated him in the ladies category with 1st place.

The family that races together, stays together and whilst the parents battle raged the three Lole children, Spencer, Hamilton, Jasper duked it out with the two Hyundais, desperately seeking dining table bragging rights.

The Howell brothers Connar and Logan showed some impressive skill and a capable car. The difference between them mainly due to some errors early in the day with Logan’s clean run awarding him second place overall. With some further experience, will we see a team who can give Harvey some competition? I hope we find out soon.

Finally to the other friendly rivalry on the field. That of seasoned Rallycross and Autocross regulars Laurie Williams and Dave Carlton. These too are great ambassadors for the sport and are usually identified by their winning smiles, but don’t be fooled, once the helmets are on, its all business.

The addition of rally tyre’s to Lauries beetle has given it a whole new persona with Dave and himself, trading times within seconds of each other all day. A few early mistakes from Dave appeared to have sunk his chances however an unfortunate incident only metres from the finish of the last run, added a penalty to Laurie which placed him behind Dave in the results.

At the end of the day, ultimately its about having fun and building skills. Whether you enjoy the participation, the competition or an excuse for a BBQ! Events like these may seem simple, however it takes a lot of people to plan, prepare and execute.

The club would like to thanks the following:
