Finally you get to see if you hang on too or lose that sheep station…
Blue = Quickest time on run, Light Blue = Quickest time on run Junior, Yellow = Wrong direction penalty added, Green = Flag penalty added.
Three competitions in one? Well it seemed a bit like it on the weekend. The Coffs Coast Khanacross number 5 had it all. With a heap of first timers, junior’s and ladies hitting the grass. All this whilst a strong bid for outright honor’s was playing out. Helped by a bumper field of almost 25 entries. Including 5 ladies and 6 juniors. I hope this is a sign of things to come!
Representatives from lots of cousin clubs did themselves proud. With teams from Kew, Northern Rivers, Kempsey, Armidale and more.
The level of competition was high but the trash talk was well mannered and plenty of friendly banter was had. If only talk = HP!
Seems like an electrical fault in the club car wouldn’t stop the days fun with many people offering the marooned drivers a car.
It was great to see the return of the Dato’s, always a crowd favourite, with the Bluebird sporting a fresh donk. A early unfortunate shearing of a half shaft put a halt on Gianni’s 1600.
The Beard’s balanced sharing a car, a last name and most of the podium. Obviously no official team orders there, as the owner of the car was just pinched out of second place on the podium by less than a second.
Paul Mountford set a cracking pace though and held onto first throughout the day, setting the quickest time on most of the runs. Perhaps someone should check him for pace notes 🙂
I’d heard Christie could drive but seeing is believing! She set a high standard for the ladies to follow which a car swap couldn’t dampen. A well won victory in Ladies, but could she face more competition in the future? Time will tell.
Finally to the juniors, with the local lad Kai bringing home the title after battling it out with some new and some old favourite rivals. The support for these young up and comers is encouraging to see and I am sure these names will be the ones at the top of the table in no time at all. Unofficial awards:
Outright
- Paul Mountford
- Dallan Beard
- Liam Beard
Juniors
- Kai Hancock
- Amelia Upcroft
- James Hurst
Ladies
- Christie Shaw
- Amelia Upcroft
- Melissa Smith
Its no secret we are a small club and it takes everyone to pitch in and help to make these events happen. I wont name names in case I miss someone, but honestly there wouldn’t be a single person who didn’t jump in and do what had to be done to ensure the day ran smoothly.
The club sincerely thanks YOU!
(Those who: entered, had to travel, banged in a stake (yanked it out, moved it and banged it in again), helped set/pack up, handled the money, supported new comers and first timers, trained new officials, became officials, managed the start, setup the BBQ, made suggestions, yelled out for the next car, reported concerns, managed the timing, set the courses, prepared the grounds, lent people a vehicle, got beaten by people who borrowed your vehicle! cooked the BBQ, bought the supplies, had a laugh with someone, gave advice, wrestled with bunting, handled the paperwork, cleaned the van, worked on the club car, helped another competitor, promoted us on socials, shared video, enjoyed themselves, was surprised by their colour when looking into the mirror when you got home……your what makes Motorsport an obsession for many.
Great work everyone.
