Hi guys.This came from Col Fletcher so I have passed it on to you.Thanks guys.
Dear Coffs Harbour & District Sporting Car Club.
As you would be aware, the elections for positions on the CAMS NSW Executive are currently being held and I am seeking the support of your club to enable me to serve you as a member of the Executive for 2015. Why have I nominated for a role on the NSW Executive? I am passionate about motor sport in all forms and want to ensure that the sport grows by addressing the needs of the next generation. We need to market our sport to young people so that they become our next generation of passionate and enthusiastic competitors, organisers and officials to ensure that motorsport continues to flourish.
I want to ensure that the needs of the vast majority of our competitors – particularly the self-funded competitors and volunteer officials – are heard and understood, as without the ongoing support of our members, the sport will diminish. As part of this focus, the needs of the clubs is also essential. Without strong, financially independent clubs, the members lose touch with the sport and each other. So, I am also keen to represent the best interests of the clubs. My Philosophy Our sport is predominantly made up of unpaid volunteers and self-funded amateur competitors. Whilst we always assess risks and maintain safety as our number one objective, I believe that the management of our sport must always be focussed on the needs of our customers. We must strive to provide a sport that suits the budget and time constraints of the competitors and returns value for money.
I believe that communication between the members and the management is essential to ensure that changes to the sport consider the needs of the amateur competitors. Overview My involvement in motorsport started in 1978 when I joined NSW Car Club (associated with the University of NSW) and started to compete in lap dashes, super sprints and rallies. I offer a wealth of experience as an event organiser, a designer/fabricator, driver, co-driver, event checker, rally panel member, lateral thinker, leader with new ideas and vision for the future. NSW Rally Panel Member of the NSWRP 1990-1992 and 2012, 2013, 2014. NSW Gemini Rally Series In 1991, as a member of the NSWRAP, I introduced a detailed proposal and regulations for the inception of the NSW Gemini Rally Series to the NSWRP which was eventually ratified by the State Executive. This series started in 1992 and ran successfully for 15 years, until 2006. Recent Achievements From early 2013, as Chairman of the NSW Rally Panel, I was proud to have been able to work with a great team who have achieved a dramatic change to the health of rallying in NSW. ·We established:
- a new brand — Rally NSW;
- engaged a number of sponsors; ·built the new Rally NSW website;
- engaged a number of regular and guest columnists;
- provided a central location for information and news stories for all NSW rally events;
- build a marketing and promotion team;
- created engagement on the Rally NSW Facebook page of 40,000 people from every NSW Rally Championship event;
- significantly increased the number of competitors registered for the various series;
- engaged and communicated with the competitors;
- introduced simple procedures to improve safety;
- restructured the failing Clubman Rally Series into the highly successful Development Rally Series;
- put new life into the NSW Rallysprint series taking it from one small round in 2013 to six successful rounds in 2014. Rally Vehicle Registration Scheme
Most recently and as an active member of a very small team, on September 1, 2014, we were able to finally launch the NSW Rally Vehicle Registration Scheme. The creation of this conditional registration scheme has been many years in the making, but now provides very cheap annual registration for all NSW rally cars with the security of complete compliance with all government regulations and insurance requirements. Not only does this bring a level of peace of mind for CAMS and vehicle owners — and financial savings for competitors — it makes it far easier for the next generation to join and compete in the sport. Organising Overview 1992 & 1993 — Clerk of Course — Hyundai Stages — NSW Rally Championship 1994 – 1995 Event Checker — Bay Stages – NSW Rally Championship 1995 & 1996 – Event Checker — Bathurst Rally – NSW Rally Championship 2003 – 2005 — Stage Commander — Bay Stages – NSW Rally Championship 2006 – 2008 — Assistant Clerk of Course — Myall Stages – NSW Rally Championship 2011 – 2014 — Clerk of Course — Rally of the Bay – NSW Rally Championship Officiated at many, many rallies over the past 35 years.
One of my current projects is working with Jon Thomson and NSSCC on the new Twilight Rallysprint Series to be held this summer at Sydney Dragway. Management Experience Without including my “9 to 5” CV, I have spent the majority of my working life as a General Manager, Managing Director or Sales Manager who is responsible for the results from a large group of people. I mentor, monitor, train, guide and manage. I have a consultative approach. I believe in understanding and responding to the needs of the marketplace (of course, in motorsport, this is our competitor and official base). I believe in allowing all team members to express their views and ideas and let them take credit for the development of a new program or plan.
My task, as a leader, is to guide the agenda and objectives for that team and have them agree to the content, objectives and timeline to achieve the desired results. Those who have worked with me on the various events I have managed will attest to my abilities to think laterally, work extremely hard, my very high degree of attention to detail and that I am a team player. Competitor Experience Driving I first competed in the 1980 NSW Clubman rally series. Since then, I have driven in over 100 CAMS rallies in NSW from Closed to Club to ARC status. Competed in the NSW Gemini Series 2004 to 2006 and won a number of events and a string of CAMS awards. Co-Driving I have co-driven for numerous drivers in events of all status. Highlights are the 1^st 2WD (7^th Outright) with Brett Bower in the 1998 Bay Stages and the wins with Mark Schwartzel in his 2400cc Datto. I am Customer Centric I have a proven track record of championing the causes of the self-funded competitors.
I vow to continue my quest to support our amateur competitors and the clubs that that support them. I have always been receptive to inquiries, questions, concerns and suggestions from competitors and organisers. Should I be elected, I will continue to make myself available to hear your issues and promote the best resolution. I will do this with well thought out submissions, respectful dialogue and professional presentation of the best way forward. So I ask that you consider casting your club’s vote for me as a member of the Executive.
Should you wish to discuss any issues with me, my contact details are below. Thank you for your time to consider my candidacy and in anticipation, thank you for your vote.
Regards, Col Fletcher
